Counting the days
Yeah,he goes overseas nearly every month, short trips usually for about a week.
Short trip you may say...only for a couple of days....but that doesn't mean I've gotten used to it.
Though I'm not as hung up as I was before,I still wish he's around the house (or his local office) instead of somewhere across the globe.
And of course,I still miss him terribly : (
I know he has to work...it's for all of us...but I miss him dearly. And I know he does too.Everytime the day comes for him to go for another trip,he'd be saying he wished he didn't have to go.That perhaps someone else would do it instead. He'll be looking all sad...
It helped that I have my 2 kids now...at least time seems to move a tad faster. But when the kids are asleep at night,oh boy,it just seems weird coz usually hubby and I would have that time to ourselves (with no kids interrupting!) to have a snack, watch tv (like tonight,we always watch Harper's Island) or simply chat and enjoy each other's company.
Sometimes though, out of the blue,my son would utter something that makes me kinda sad for him...coz I know he misses his daddy. He'd say,'nak kiss abah',where's abah, umi?' before he goes to sleep at night.Or when he wakes up in the morning,he'd just open the bedroom door and looked for his daddy in the other room as his dad is often in front of the pc in the morning after subuh, before he goes to work. And when he couldn't find his daddy there,he'd scutter to the kitchen and around the house hollering for him.
He'd be asking me over and over again,'where's abah, umi? abah's in an airplane?' .These are the things that makes me sad for my baby...and I'll miss hubby all over again.
I'm ok with hubby going on his biz trips....I know he has to work, doing it for us.But please, don't assume that I've got used to it.As if I haven't said it enough,I still miss him very much.
He's on his flight to New Zealand now....Me?I'm counting the days,as always,to him coming home to me....

Brain Olympics
Yeah,that's what it's called.
When I first receive the letter,I was like,WHAT?That was the same reaction from the other mummies in his class that day.It was the last week of April and the Brain Olympics runs between May and June. Our kids were selected and recommended to take part in this Brain Olympics independently.
Apparently,Shichida has this to develop the kids' confidence and reward them for good progress. They would obtain scholarship vouchers (getting this helps to pay a fraction of his fees) as well as a commendation cert for grades achieved. We would not be told of the materials used for this until sometime in May and when his teacher informed us accordingly,I,for some strange reason, got the wrong materials. After practising for a week or so,I suddenly felt something was amiss. After I communicated with his teacher, I realized I had used the Memory Link material for 2 year-olds instead of for 3.
Of course I panicked a little bit...Well ok,a lot actually.Time was short and we had to practice, practice, practice. When we eventually started practising with the correct materials,it left my son about a few weeks till the Brain Olympics Challenge. On top of that,we didn't get to do it everyday as much as I wanted to.
He didn't manage to get all the Memory Link pictures in order. It's like this-there are 40 picture cards that he needs to put in sequence in the given time of 3 minutes. To help him with the sequence, there's a funny (or shall I say ridiculous?!) story that I read out to him with the names of the pictures. This would help him to remember.

First we practise with 10 picture cards...thereafter another set of 10 and so on.Eventually he has to be able to do all 40 on his own.He has never done all 40 cards correctly...sometimes he needed my help in prompting him.At times,I'll get upset or angry especially when I know he knows how to do it,it was just that he either refused to co-operate or didn't pay full attention throughout the exercise (kids being kids!)
The test was last week, 06.06.09
Before we headed for class,I told his daddy to wish him luck and doa for him (and me...coz I was so nervous).
In the midst of his lessons, the teacher announced that we'd be doing the Memory Link.I took a deep breath.I was smiling at my son, trying to give him good energy vibes and stay calm, when I myself, was not.He started off ok...with the first 10 cards (not a surprise coz I know he has memorized those)....then came the next 10...and 20...my heart was in my mouth, thumping like crazy....oh,I really wish he'd do well. And when the last card was placed in the sequence correctly,ALL CORRECTLY,I was feeling out of this world! It took him less than 3 minutes (I had never timed him at home before) so there I was GRINNING from ear to ear.I was sooooo proud of him.I gave him a huge kiss and told him he did a great job.Of course,I was too excited to wait till his class was over so I messaged hubby immediately to tell him what happened.
Sadly, none of his friends managed to complete it.
That was the first test he did. There'll be more in terms to come. What it taught me was to be confident of my child,of his capabilities, trust him and most of all,to be very patient when I'm teaching him.I lost my cool sometimes and I'm not proud of it.After all,he's only two.
But what he did that day made me smile for many, many more days to come : )

Idol Finale
I was my own spoiler today.I didn't realize the finale of American Idol was being broadcast in the morning so when I switched on the TV,it was on StarWorld and lo and behold,Ryan just announced that Kris was the winner.Grrrr.....I wanted the anticipation of watching the finale but darn it,there it was,the result was in my face!
Argh...Between the two,I had wanted Adam to win (Danny was awesome too,but he was booted out).Despite that,I watched the whole show in the evening (except the part when Kris sang his new song in the end) and it was awesome!
I enjoyed the collaboration between Cyndi Lauper and Allison,I mean, what a classic song!Don't know how old I was when that song was a hit....hehe...Then,there was the 'award' given to that long legged girl who sang 'Vision of Love'....pahh...she was so bad at it and judging by the look on her face, she knew it.But I have to admit, her body's so gorgeous!Ooooh la lal.I can bet you all women would want a body like that!I know I do : p
Anyhow, when Kara came out singing next to her,she was down and out,I tell ya.Her voice was a far cry from Kara's powerful vocals. And it was fantastic at the end of it when Kara showed off her body too.It was soooo hilarious and nicely done.Kara outdone the girl and she didn't look at all pleased.Hahaha.
I was looking forward to Lionel Richie performing and I wanted him to sing 'Hello'.In turn,Danny sang this song.Good thing he's one of my favourites and he sang it beautifully!I was singing along with him,on my couch, and suddenly feeling romantic!lol. How I wish hubby's home with me! (he's in Thailand now on a biz trip, now probably eating those yummy prawns at Chinatown we once had). Of course,Lionel Richie wouldn't be on stage without singing his famous ' All Night Long'.That's one song you can't help singing and dancing to!!
The sweet strums of Carlos Santana came next.Wow.This is the best finale ever. What more with 'Smooth'....oooohhhh,I was on music high, singing my lousy voice along with them. Then there was Adam singing with Kiss (how cool is that!) and of course, the great voice of David Cook.
It was a good Idol Finale.I thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to watch it again with hubby this weekend since he missed it tonight.
So Kris won.Well, perhaps this would be like Ruben and Clay.Although Clay was first runner-up,he has more album sales and becomes more successful than Ruben.(Kris' fans-don't be mad.hehe)
These are some of the performances that I like from this season...Enjoy.

Don't grow up too fast!
Just the other day I went to register for my boy to be in nursery next year.Yup,he'd be going to school each and every weekday next year onwards. If it's not for a good pal of mine who asked me about it, I wouldn't even realize (neither did hubby) that we have to register him for school so early in the year.I was scrambling to get the registration form a few weeks back as it was the final day to collect it.And so last Tuesday,he was officially registered to be in school for 2010.
He has also recently learnt to sleep on his own....without needing us beside him,to hug or to accompany him for a long time.It was not easy to train him to do that, but after a few days,he got the hang of it and understood what needs to be done,so now we read a book, sang some songs he adore,we kissed and hugged each other, say doa and he'd fall asleep soon after he hugged his pillow. What an accomplishment for all of us!
As for my baby girl, she is 4 months now : )
Loves putting everything in her mouth....and enjoys being showered with kisses and jumping on the bed (with our help of course).Doesn't nap as often as before and always wants attention-calling us out and chuckling when she sees us.As much as her smile and laughter melt us all,she needs sleep training too....and it hasn't been easy for her to self-soothe as she is accustomed to sleep on the breast.*sigh*Well, wish us luck!

My husband married an obsessive woman!
Until I recently read an article about OCPD-obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.Urgh....sounds creepy.
OCD is defined as an anxiety mental disorder that centres on repetitive, fearful thoughts, termed as an obsession.
Well,I'm an 'orderer' apparently. My obsession is to organise or arrange objects in a specific pattern or order before performing a daily task.My compulsion is to arrange things in a certain 'correct' way. Thus,if anyone else touches or moves those objects out of place,I would feel extremely upset or annoyed.
Which,I tell you, is soooooo true!
I can't help it.I have this excessive desire for orderliness.I want certain things to be where they are.I want items that have been taken to be placed back EXACTLY as it was before. For instance, when hubby took the diaper rash cream to put on our son and then he placed it back on the vanity table, but not exactly at the spot where it was supposed to be,I'd get agitated.I mean,I have placed our bottles of perfume, lotions and creams etc, neatly and in such an organized way (perfumes on the left, lotions in the middle, deodorant and powder at the back....and so on...),I just get a tad upset when they are not placed back neatly. It's with everything, you know.I don't like seeing a crooked bathmat on the floor, slanted cushions on the sofa, furniture not in line...I try not to get too consumed or annoyed when I noticed this kind of thing coz I don't want the person who didn't do it 'right' to be annoyed by my behaviour.I'm mental!Haha!
Just a few months back,SIL and hubby insisted that SIL stayed with us for a few days after I gave birth to my second. As lovely and as helpful as she is,I couldn't help but wanting to do certain things my way or to put certain items as such.I tried so hard to ignore and not be so regimental but when no one was looking,I rearrange it back as it was supposed to be.Opps....
Sounds crazy but it's true. That's me.Yup,I'm an obesessive orderer.I just respect orderliness and cleanliness, that's all. This reminds me of two characters I watched on TV before. One is the husband of Julia Roberts in the movie 'Sleeping with the enemy' who wanted even the towels on the rack to be arranged in line. The other is Monica, played by Courteney Cox,in the sitcom 'Friends'.Those who are fans of this would understand!
As obssessive as I am,hubby still loves me : p I have our home nice and neat, haven't I?hehe....
Speaking of which,I can't wait for hubby to be back from Sydney tomorrow. He's been gone too long....I hope he's got my favourite chocolates back for me!*grin*
Anyway,I had a good time shopping with my two babies yesterday.I had wanted to go to the new mall in the east since it was opened but didn't get the chance, especially when hubby dreaded to wait for a parking lot during the crowded weekends.First stop was to Uniqlo, the most talked-about new store these days.I wanted to know what the hype is about since I've never been to one,in Japan, that is.All in all,it's an ok store. Not so much for me I guess. It houses the basics, with lots of tees, camisoles and tank tops for women.I was looking forward to check out the bratop but most are plain, sleeveless tanktops, unlike the ones from Victoria Secrets (I wish we have VS store here,I went wild at one in Las Vegas!),which have long sleeves ones and gorgeous design tops. There are tons of jeans in Uniqlo.I didn't get the chance to try any, what with the 2 kids. But I noticed some nice cuttings on some and a pair of sleek cargoes. The material in Uniqlo seems good though-kudos to that.I bought some innerwear which feels comfortable and makes me yearn to buy more : ) I just wish they carry more styles.
I came across another new first time in S'pore store and I love the designs they carry.I got a nice waistcoat and I can't wait for them to bring in more.I burnt a hole at the end of those few hours of shopping, with a few breaks to change my baby's diaper and to breastfeed.Such a challenge to shop with the lil' ones (with my son falling off his sister's pram,my daughter wailing for milk and me shouting,no don't touch that and put that back!),but it won't stop me!At the end of the day, there were gifts for the family.
It's always the case.....once I start,it's difficult to stop (maybe there's another term for this obsession too!yikes) so I ended up staying up till the early morn to shop online.Ohhh ohhh....
Maybe it's good that hubby's home tomorrow....so I won't digress in my shopping!
P.S.Check out this 2 stunning gizmos!A fiery red cybershot that allows editing on the camera itself....and Kindle2,for bookworms like me!Dunno if its downloads are available here or not.Any ebook will do then *wink*

A year gone by....
A year full of hopes and dreams.....and mostly of laughter and much pain (that was the part when I went into labour!lol).A big change in my life since last year is having another baby...a much awaited baby girl, who is coincidentally conceived on my last birthday...*grin*
As I closed my eyes and ponder on the significant parts of my life, what I was before, the things that happened which has moulded me to what I am today,I can only be thankful to Him.Though I can't erase some that I've regretted, perhaps in all the wrong that I've done,I might have done something good after all...to deserve this happiness and this smile I have on my face everyday.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't effected with the change in the number. And I still wouldn't tell anyone my age if I have to,chose to playfully said 'I'm 21' when anybody asks.Like, get real, right?!Think what you may,go ahead and guess...just don't go overboard if you want to get on my good side : )
I was mulling over the fact that hubby's going away for another business trip on my birthday and hoping that he has something nice up his sleeve for me before he flies off.I love when someone fusses over my birthday, planning and surprising me...yup,just for me!Haha!Am I being snotty?*shrugs* Trust me,all wives want that from their husbands.
And so,that was exactly what he did.
He took the kids and me for a fantastic meal on Sunday afternoon. We had a 'New Zealand menu'....fresh dory and succulent steak....and a kiwi cheesecake. It may look a queer green but I promise you,it's superb!
On Monday morning,at 11.12am,I received a message-He told me to get the kids to nap early as we have a date at 3.30.
I was so surprised! He has gone to work and I thought it was going to be another routine weekday for me.Apparently not!I rushed through the chores that needed immediate attention and waited anxiously to be swept to another food galore.
Hi-tea at Carousel.
The food was so-so.Not much improvement since our last visit. What I went wild for was of course, the desserts!I had a bit of rice,otak-otak,a taste of kebab and some other stuff here and there, but I swooped in on the sinful sweets....their signature bread and butter pudding,cheesecakes,scones,ice-cream and chocolate fondue. My son was in it as much as I was!
I ate till the lights go low on us.I was a happy woman.Just as I thought we were heading home, hubby asked if I was ready for the second surprise.Oh la la...
What was beside Carousel?Yup,DFS.But more importantly, where exactly at DFS were we headed?
Third floor...where all the boutiques are...where you can smell the leather on those gorgeous ones....
With a skip on my step and an enormous grin on my face (I couldn't wipe that stupid smile on my face throughout!),we went into
'The One'.
I could have kissed him right there!
Not forgetting,a birthday card with words written so sweet,I had tears in my eyes.
Thank you sweetheart!Muaah...muaah...muaah....
On the morning of my birthday, hubby flew off to Hong Kong.Still dizzy with excitement,I went on a date with my two SIL for yet another sumptuous meal.Ooh all the good food....
My son has the best time it seems!(My baby girl stayed asleep all this while...)
I had a long birthday celebration this year.It was fantastic.I had tons of messages and well-wishes from my true friends and loads of love from my family.
What more could I have asked for....?

Fine dining
Salmon ready.....

Just some of the ingredients....

Cook up a storm....and voila! My teriyaki salmon steak!
It's simple, takes less than 30 minutes, including prep time....I love it,hubby loves it and even our junior can't get enough it.
It's tangy sauce goes great with the soft salmon.Healthy,lip-smacking treat.
It's fine dining....without the pinch in your pockets.hehe....
